MATTHEW Scarlett knows finals greatness.

The champion Geelong full-back's reflex toe-poke to Gary Ablett in the dying moments of the 2009 Grand Final helped clinch the game for the Cats and will be remembered forever.

It didn't make his top 10 finals moments as part of AFL.com.au's Personal Best series, but plenty of iconic events did.

They include great marks such as Alex Jesaulenko's 1970 Grand Final grab over Graham Jenkin and Leo Barry's match-saving effort in the 2005 Grand Final, and great runs such as those by Collingwood's Phil Manassa in the 1977 Grand Final replay and Essendon's Michael Long in the 1993 Grand Final.

Scarlett grew up an Essendon supporter despite his father John playing 189 games for the Cats.

"The best goal I have seen in a Grand Final," Scarlett said. "Michael Long was one of my favourite players. He had a great finals series that year and that goal was one of my favourites."

Acts of brilliance such as Adelaide's Darren Jarman's five goals in the last quarter of the 1997 Grand Final are featured, as are acts of bravery such as Hawthorn's Robert DiPierdomenico playing the second half of the 1989 Grand Final with a punctured lung.

"One of the most courageous acts I have seen in a pretty brutal Grand Final," he said.

This is the final Personal Best for 2012. But it will return again next year.
