Rock bands to test Etihad Stadium surface during NAB Cup

ETIHAD STADIUM ground staff are facing a fast turnaround during this year's pre-season competition, with the venue to host a Kiss and Mötley Crüe concert during the NAB Cup.

The glam rockers and hair metal outfit will play two shows, with the stadium set up in arena mode – meaning the stage and some seating will be on the surface.

The concerts are scheduled for Tuesday March 5 and Wednesday March 6, leaving just three days before Collingwood hosts the Brisbane Lions in a NAB Cup contest.

But stadium management is confident the playing surface won't be jeopardised.

"Bear in mind that it's a smaller arena event, it's not a full stadium arena event. It's only using a small portion of the ground," Etihad Stadium spokesman Bill Lane told

"We anticipate the ground will present well for the Collingwood-Brisbane NAB Cup game."

The AFL said it had been kept informed of Etihad Stadium's plans.

"We have been assured that steps will be taken to ensure the concert does not have an adverse impact on the turf, so that playing conditions are safeguarded for the following weekend's NAB Cup match," AFL spokesman James Tonkin said.

"We have also briefed the AFL's turf consultants to undertake an independent review to assess any potential impacts on the playing surface as a result of the planned concert."
