RICHMOND'S preparations on the eve of the 2013 season have been jolted with the departure of football manager Craig Cameron.

After five years in the role, Cameron will leave the AFL to join the horseracing industry, becoming chief executive at BC3 Thoroughbreds.

"Craig has overseen significant change in our football program in his five years in the role," Tigers chief executive Brendan Gale said in a statement.

"There have been important changes to our coaching, development, list management and forward scouting structures under his guidance.

"Our plans are locked in for the season ahead, so the timing of this decision will allow us to undertake a rigorous process to identify the right person to lead the football department into the future."

Cameron said it was a tough decision to leave the club, but felt the timing was right.
