CLINTON Young's hamstring injury is to be assessed in the next 24 hours according to Collingwood football manager Geoff Walsh.

In a statement given to AFL.com.au, Walsh said the club would decide on a further course of action soon, after the former Hawk hurt his hamstring in the VFL on Saturday afternoon.

"Clinton left the field early in the game with hamstring soreness. He will be assessed in the next 24 hours at which time we'll have a better idea of his status," Walsh said.

Young is likely to have scans during this time period, with the extent of the damage yet to be revealed.

The injury to Young has overshadowed the VFL performances of Dale Thomas, Alex Fasolo and Alan Didak at Victoria Park.

Young missed the Magpies' season opener against North Melbourne last Sunday with a calf injury and was playing in his first VFL game in the black and white.

Thomas, who has been hampered by an ankle injury throughout the pre-season, impressed with a series of dashing runs.

After his VFL hit-out last Thursday night, the star Pie backed that up with 24 touches, nine marks and kicked a goal in a stellar display against North Ballarat.

Fasolo and Didak - who have battled hamstring concerns over the summer - were also lively for the Pies.

Fasolo managed to get through the game unscathed and the young Pie said after the game he was just pleased to be out there playing after a frustrating time on the sidelines.

"It was good to be out there and get a pretty high percentage of game time under my belt and also contribute and the body's held up; so all positive," Fasolo said.

Fasolo believes he is fit enough to play against Hawthorn next week if he is called upon.

Didak's possessions (21 touches) were valuable, while Fasolo's clean skills and classy finishing were important in his 25 disposals.

Andrew Krakouer's bid to gain match fitness also went off without a hitch, but VFL coach Dale Tapping said the exciting forward is still three to four weeks away from pushing for senior selection.

Young ruckman Jarrod Witts booted three goals and showed great mobility for such a big man, while Pies rookie Kyle Martin racked up 33 touches and three goals.

Josh Thomas (24 disposals) and Jack Frost, who were both left out of the side to face Carlton after debuting against the Kangaroos in round one, also did plenty to suggest they may receive more opportunities to play in the senior side this season.

Of the North Melbourne-listed players, defender Luke Delaney was solid in the back half and young forward Aaron Black had his moments.

Collingwood defeated North Ballarat 107-55.
