While his teammates celebrated the emotional win, Hurley was helped from the ground with a team trainer bracing his right wrist, and was rushed off to the rooms immediately. There were fears he may have broken the same wrist that was operated on last year.
"The doctor said no, but obviously until we get the x-ray we won’t know," Bombers coach James Hird said post-match.
"It got stuck under him, and there's some scar tissue which I think he’s just broken up. That’s the initial presentation. We’ll wait and see during the week."
Hurley played a vital role for the Bombers in the grinding, low-scoring win, taking six marks and kicking two goals in the slippery conditions.
"I thought Michael’s game tonight was outstanding, the way he competed against two or three [opponents]. He managed to set up our forward line structurally," Hird said.
Hurley has eight days to recover before Essendon's round four clash with St Kilda.
