THE EUPHORIA of Nic Naitanui's match-winning goal after the siren for West Coast will be tempered by the reality of significant injuries to Sharrod Wellingham and Will Schofield.

Wellingham was subbed out of Friday night’s match early in the second quarter after suffering an injury to his left ankle.

Eagles coach John Worsfold confirmed it was not the right ankle Wellingham injured in a trampolining accident in the pre-season, which kept the ex-Collingwood onballer out of the first five rounds.

"He's already had an X-ray and that's fine," Worsfold said.

"He'll get an MRI tomorrow to assess what they think has been damaged, but it's obviously now to check ligaments and that's all I know."

Will Schofield's situation appears more serious. The defender suffered a compound dislocation to a finger in the third quarter and requires surgery.

"Because the skin gets broken, he goes into surgery tonight to wash it out, and remove any chance of infection before they sew it up.

"While they're doing that, they check if anything is damaged in there … so (he's) probably likely to miss a couple of weeks.

Schofield showed remarkable resolve to come back onto the ground and play a part for his team in the last quarter.

"It was a really good effort. He put his hand up – the good one. The other one was throbbing," Worsfold said.

"But he said 'if you need me to go out there I'll go; I can't really handle the footy but I'll try and give something just to get someone a rest for five or six minutes', which he did.

"That may have helped us."

Luke Shuey appeared to hurt his left shoulder in a clash, and was icing it after the match, but was fine according to Worsfold.

Jacob Brennan was also involved in a sickening head clash with North Melbourne's Sam Wright, but both players continued on after the incident.
