On the eve of Fremantle's clash against the struggling Demons, Lyon was bemused by the fact that his club seemed to be linked to every high profile un-contracted player.
"It's just a weekly procession," Lyon said.
"I also read (we were after) Buddy Franklin.
"And they think we had Harry Taylor.
"I don't like talking about players from other clubs."
Lyon was firm that his priority lay with players already on his list and developing them to have long term futures at Fremantle.
"I'm on record … our priority is our players, our list.
"(Our aim is to) secure them, which our list management team is doing at a really good rate.
"And then after we've got our own talent secured, we'll look for opportunities in the market.
"But it's not my priority. I haven't got that luxury."
Lyon was focussed on the task at hand, which is Melbourne on Sunday afternoon at Patersons Stadium.
The lowly Demons have not won in Perth since round 11, 2004, but Lyon bristled at the statistic when it was raised.
"Well, to be frank, the past is irrelevant."
"I flew into Melbourne last week and watched them play.
"They were right in it up to their ears until three-quarter time.
"They pride themselves on the combative side of football, clearances, it was pretty much equal against a really good team (in Richmond).
"They've got some really good hard young runners. If you give them time and space they can slice you up."
Lyon said he would not take the opportunity to experiment up forward despite the success of Michael Johnson, late in the drawn against the Swans.
"We'll back in the guys we've been playing forward.
"Johnson went there because Reid was pushed behind the ball and we just made him accountable."
"We tend to start rock solid, and then maybe a (Luke) McPharlin or Johnson if need be."
Despite sitting fifth on the ladder, despite a heavy injury toll, Lyon said there was plenty of room for improvement.
"We had a strong meeting yesterday about where our improvement lies, and the players have no uncertainty about where we need to improve.
"We had 61 forward-50 entries last week for 9 goals 16 behinds, so we are looking to improve upon that.
"Our clearance work in certain areas of the ground needs improvement."
