Doc Larkins, footy's first and most respected media medico, gives his take on the injury lists of all 18 AFL clubs. He writes exclusively every week for AFL.com.au.

 Adelaide
PlayerInjuryEstimated Return
Lewis JohnstonKnee4 weeks
Jared PetrenkoShoulderTBC
David MackayHipTest
Sam ShawHamstring1-2 weeks
Taylor WalkerKneeSeason

The Doc says: Petrenko will have further scans on his right shoulder after a heavy collision with Mumford. It's a real concern and he will need surgery if a significant instability injury is detected. Mackay was selected but was a late withdrawal with ongoing hip soreness. He is likely to be right this week.

Jared PolecAnkleTest

Tom RockliffQuadTest
Patrick WeardenFaceAvailable
Stephen WrigleyKneeSeason

The Doc says: The Lions are coming off the bye so Rockliff and Polec are most likely to be fully tested. Maguire and Rich are also back in training and may be in the mix. Maguire has missed 10 weeks and lacks match preparation.

The Doc says: No new concerns this week. Goldsack should train this week and Elliot (late withdrawal) along with Dwyer (groin) should be available.

 ESSENDON

The Doc says: Dempsey may miss one more but Gumbleton is more likely to be put through full testing.

Steven MotlopPatella tendonitisTest
Jared RiversKneeTest
Travis VarcoeShoulder2 weeks

The Doc says: Both Johnson and Christensen will have concussion monitoring all week but the bye will almost certainly ensure they both return for the Cats' round 13 match. Caddy played VFL and should be available with Rivers also in the mix for senior selection. McIntosh probably needs more VFL time. Motlop will return after the bye.

  Gold Coast
PlayerInjuryEstimated Return
Harley BennellHamstring2-3 weeks
Charlie DixonAnkleTest
Jesse LonerganHamstring2-3 weeks
Brandon MateraAnkleIndefinite
Henry SchadeAnkleTBC
Zac SmithKneeSeason
Matthew WarnockArm1-2 weeks

The Doc says: Dixon has aggravated his right ankle and will struggle all week, leaving him in doubt but I suspect he will be selected for the big clash against the Bombers. Hunt (hammy recovery) played in the reserves on the weekend but his form was patchy.

  Greater Western Sydney
PlayerInjuryEstimated Return
Dean BroganBackTest
Chad CornesKneeIndefinite
Phil DavisBack3 weeks
Toby GreeneQuadTest
Anthony MilesCalfTest
Jonathon PattonKneeSeason
Andrew PhillipsHamstring1 week
Nathan WilsonCalf1 week

The Doc says: Brogan did not pass a fitness test but is closer this week. Greene and Miles are outside chances only and Cornes continues to struggle with his chronic knee but is helping with coaching and the development of younger players.

  Hawthorn
PlayerInjuryEstimated Return
Cyril RioliHamstring2-3 weeks
Ryan SchoenmakersKneeSeason
Matt SucklingKneeSeason
Alex WoodwardKneeSeason

The Doc says: Rioli (round five hammy recurrence) was always expected to miss six to eight weeks but the club is being more conservative this time. He has worked on his core strength and running technique in an effort to avert further injury after he returns, which could be in round 14. Whitecross (ACL rehab) is due for his VFL return.

  Melbourne
PlayerInjuryEstimated Return
Mitch ClarkFoot4-5 weeks
Chris DawesAnkle1-2 weeks
James Frawley Hamstring3 weeks
Jack GrimesShoulder3-4 weeks
Jordie McKenzieFaceTest
Jack VineyToe1 weeks

The Doc says: Dawes has a left ankle sprain and was subbed at half-time. He will get treatment over the bye weekend and should be OK for round 13. Viney is an outside chance after the bye as is Byrnes, who played in the VFL last weekend.

  North Melbourne
PlayerInjuryEstimated Return
Tom CurranFootSeason
Daniel CurrieThumb1 week
Kieran HarperAnkleTest
Scott McMahonThumbTest
Robbie TarrantLeg1 week

The Doc says: The Kangaroos continue to have one of the smallest injury lists in the competition. McMahon has a right thumb injury and is sore but may play after the bye with strapping even, if a small crack is detected on x-ray. There are no other new injuries after yet another disappointing loss against Gold Coast on the weekend. Tarrant continues his slow progress but should be in contention after the bye.

  Port Adelaide
PlayerInjuryEstimated Return
Dom CassisiHamstring1 week
Brett EbertCalf1 week
Jasper PittardHip flexor1 week
Jarrad ReddenShoulderTBC
Jackson TrengoveFoot3-4 weeks

The Doc says: Port is coming off a week of rest so Lobbe and Renouf should be ready for full testing. Redden has an unstable right shoulder but it seems the club may not opt for surgery in the hope he will get through to the end of the season without further dislocation.

  Richmond
PlayerInjuryEstimated Return
Reece ConcaFootAvailable
Brandon EllisHamstringAvailable
Dylan GrimesFoot4-5 weeks
Chris KnightsKneeSeason
Ricky PetterdCalf2-3 weeks
Shane TuckShoulder2 weeks
Cadeyn WilliamsShoulderSeason

The Doc says: The Tigers are coming off the bye. Conca is ready for a senior return after a VFL game two weeks ago. Petterd has not progressed as the Tigers had expected him to and has had a setback costing him another two to three weeks. Ellis will be considered an outside chance.

 St Kilda
PlayerInjuryEstimated Return
Sam GilbertKnee5-7 weeks
Lenny HayesCalf1 week
Tom HickeyFootTest
Daniel MarkworthKneeSeason
Darren MinchingtonHamstring1-2 weeks
Adam SchneiderHamstring2 weeks
Nathan WrightBackTest

The Doc says: Fisher (foot stress) missed on weekend but should be right for round 13 after the bye. Wright (back) and Hickey (foot) were late withdrawals but Saints have no new injuries heading into the bye week. Schneider's hamstring recovery should allow him into full training after the bye but he is more likely to return at VFL level.

  Sydney Swans
PlayerInjuryEstimated Return

Shane MumfordFace3-4 weeks
Sam NaismithKneeIndefinite
Sam ReidQuad2-3 weeks
Lewis Roberts-ThomsonKnee3-4 weeks
Gary RohanLegIndefinite
Rhyce ShawAbdomenIndefinite
Tommy WalshHamstringSeason

The Doc says: Mumford has a fractured zygoma (cheekbone) but has had corrective surgery and may return in four weeks. Reid is getting close but is still in a risk period and may be given until round 14. Lewis should be ready after the bye. Rohan (tibia fracture) is running to build fitness but is a long way off match readiness.

  West Coast

Beau WatersQuadTest
Sharrod WellinghamAnkle2-3 weeks

The Doc says: Kennedy has been carrying a low-grade calf injury and missed last weekend after being a late withdrawal but he is likely to be OK for round 13 after the bye. Waters and Glass should also return but LeCras' arm fracture continues to be sore since surgery after round one. He may be tested and continue playing with protective guard.

The Doc says: Had a week off and should have Cooney, Boyd and Stevens all fit for this week. Williams is still contemplating a decision on his unstable shoulder but is likely to have revision surgery in the coming week and will hopefully return in 2014.
