PORT Adelaide will be without ruckman Jarrad Redden for the remainder of 2013 after he had season-ending hip surgery on Thursday.

Redden will also have surgery on his right shoulder after dislocating it against the Western Bulldogs in round 10.

The club said the operation on Redden's hip went well and that the secondary procedure on his shoulder would take place within the next fortnight.

The 22-year-old had been set for a significant season, trusted on multiple occasions as the Powers' sole ruckman.

Power high performance manager Darren Burgess said having the surgeries now meant Redden wouldn't miss any of the side's pre-season for 2014.

"Given that we have made the call for him to have shoulder surgery soon, it’s an opportunity to have his hip operated on now so that he is ready to resume pre-season training with the rest of the team," Burgess said.

"[Thursday's] surgery went well and after his imminent shoulder surgery we expect him to make a full recovery and be fit and ready for next season."
