BRENDAN Whitecross is set to play his first game for Hawthorn since seriously injuring his knee in last year's qualifying final against Collingwood.

Whitecross is among a number of players returning for round 14.

Chris Yarran is back in Carlton's side, Luke Ball is back for Collingwood, Travis Boak returns for Port Adelaide and Jack Ziebell will line up for North Melbourne after serving his three-match suspension.

But a number of teams have lost big names.

Richmond has ruled out Ivan Maric (groin), Carlton has lost Marc Murphy to the cheekbone he broke against Hawthorn in round 12, the Sydney Swans have lost Adam Goodes (knee), Geelong has been forced to make do without suspended gun Steve Johnson and Darren Jolly (toe) and Ben Reid (hamstring) are out of the Magpies team.

Whitecross is among five players brought into the Hawks' 25-man squad for their clash with the Brisbane Lions in Launceston on Sunday.

Matt Spangher, Kyle Cheney, Will Langford, Jonathon Ceglar and Isaac Smith have also come into their squad, while Brent Guerra (back), Grant Birchall (knee) and Max Bailey (knee soreness) are out injured.

Riding high after their shock win over Geelong last weekend, the Lions have included Matt Maguire, James Polkinghorne and Rohan Bewick in their squad.

Yarran and Simon White are the two inclusions in Carlton's team to play the Sydney Swans at the SCG on Friday night.

Murphy and Sam Rowe (omitted) are out.

The Swans have also made two changes, with Andrejs Everitt and Brandon Jack replacing Goodes and Tony Armstrong (omitted).

Karmichael Hunt is back in Gold Coast's team for the first time since round six.

Greg Broughton, Maverick Weller, Steven May and Andrew Boston have also been included in the Suns' side for their clash with Adelaide at Metricon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Michael Rischitelli (elbow), Liam Patrick (omitted), Luke Russell (hip), Jack Hutchins (omitted) and  Tom Lynch (knee) will miss the game.

The Crows have made three changes, with Brent Reilly, Aidan Riley and Brad Crouch replacing David Mackay, Ian Callinan and Shaun McKernan, who have all been dropped.

Boak and Jack Trengove are back in Port Adelaide's side for the big clash with Collingwood at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.

The Power have dropped Matt Thomas and Campbell Heath.

Ball, Ben Hudson and Jordan Russell have come into the Magpies side.

They have replaced Jolly, Reid and youngster Adam Oxley, who has been dropped.

Geelong has made just one change for its second v third clash against Fremantle at Simonds Stadium on Saturday night, with Josh Caddy replacing Johnson.

The Dockers have lost Michael Barlow to a broken jaw and have replaced him with youngster Tom Sheridan.

Melbourne has been boosted by the return of All Australian defender James Frawley for Saturday night's game against the Western Bulldogs at the MCG.

Max Gawn has also won a call-up, while Jake Spencer (suspension) and Cam Pedersen (omitted) are out.

The Dogs have made three changes, with Ayce Cordy, Mitch Wallis and Tory Dickson replacing Brett Goodes, who has a wrist injury, and Lukas Markovic and Liam Picken, who have been dropped.

North Melbourne has axed Liam Anthony and Sam Wright from its team to play Greater Western Sydney at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Ziebell headlines the Roos' ins, with Robbie Tarrant, Jordan Gysberts, Ben Jacobs and Taylor Garner also coming into their 25-man squad.

Stephen Gilham and Setanta O'hAilpin are among the players brought into the Giants squad, while Stephen Coniglio and Lachie Plowman have both been dropped.

Maric and David Astbury (hamstring) have both been forced out of Richmond's team to play St Kilda at the MCG on Sunday evening, but Troy Chaplin, who has been battling a knee problem, has been named.

Luke McGuane, Orren Stephenson, Jake Batchelor, Matthew Arnot and Matt Dea have come into the Tigers squad.

Tom Simpkin (suspension) is the only player omitted from the Saints' side at this stage, with Arryn Siposs, Tom Ledger, Nathan Wright and Ahmed Saad all coming into their squad.
