with Dr Peter Larkins
Doc Larkins, footy's first and most respected media medico, gives his take on the injury lists of all 18 AFL clubs. He writes exclusively every week for AFL.com.au.
|Brodie Martin||Ankle||2-3 weeks|
The Doc says: Reilly has a badly dislocated right shoulder and scans will confirm significant damage. The Crows may decide on corrective surgery to avoid any risk of recurrence this year. Petrenko is likely to be ready for a senior return – he didn't play in the SANFL but got through main training last week. Johnston may return via SANFL this week.
The Doc says: Merrett is unlikely after being a late withdrawal last week with a groin- these can take two-three weeks to heal fully. Polec played in the NEAFL on the weekend.
|Josh Bootsma||Hamstring||2-3 weeks|
|David Ellard||Calf||1 week|
|Patrick McCarthy||Foot||5 weeks|
The Doc says: Bootsma has a low-grade hamstring strain and will miss two to three weeks. Murphy is likely to train fully but may consider wearing a protective helmet type with cheekbone padding if selected – if it's not this week then he's likely for round 16. White is an outside chance and Carrazzo played VFL and will push for senior return.
|Alan Didak||Calf||1-2 weeks|
|Jack Frost||Knee||1-2 weeks|
|Ben Johnson||Calf||1-2 weeks|
The Doc says: Beams (14 weeks out) and Goldsack (nine weeks) are likely to return in the VFL after both have missed lengthy periods. Jolly is an outside chance but Reid probably won't risk his hammy until next week.
|Heath Hocking||Calf||1-2 weeks|
The Doc says: Crameri will need time for his right ankle lateral ligament tear to settle - the club expects him to be tested this week but he is most doubtful to be right to play. Hocking will miss at least two weeks while Fletcher (round 11 adductor) was always likely to miss 2-3 weeks but is now ready to test later in the week.
|Paul Duffield||Calf||2 weeks|
|Sam Menegola||Knee||6 weeks|
|Anthony Morabito||Knee||2 weeks|
The Doc says: Sandilands may play in the WAFL for part of match after missing three months. Duffield will miss two-three weeks at a minimum but Barlow and Mundy may be tested – Barlow is more likely. Pavlich could be a surprise selection if he trains fully all week.
|Paul Chapman||Hamstring||1-2 weeks|
|Lincoln McCarthy||Foot||1-2 weeks|
|Hamish McIntosh||Achilles||2-3 weeks|
|Jackson Sheringham||Shoulder, hamstring||1-2 weeks|
|Jackson Thurlow||Fractured jaw||2-3 weeks|
The Doc says: Rivers should play in the VFL but Varcoe may have another week at training and then play VFL. Thurlow broke his zygoma (cheekbone) in the VFL and required surgery to correct a depression – he could play in three weeks.
The Doc says: Dixon (round six ankle) has been surprisingly slow but must be ready to push this week. Lonergan has missed five weeks and should train fully.
|Andrew Phillips||Hamstring||4 weeks|
The Doc says: The Giants have a pretty healthy list this week. Palmer was not ready as expected last week but should be available. Brogan is an outside chance if needed.
|Jed Anderson||Hamstring||1-2 weeks|
|Grant Birchall||Knee||3-5 weeks|
|Amos Frank||Knee||3-5 weeks|
|Liam Shiels||Ankle||2-4 weeks|
|Matthew Spangher||Hamstring||2-3 weeks|
The Doc says: Gibson was extremely lucky to avoid a serious neck injury after his flexion/impact landing against the Lions. Ellis will likely miss three-four games with a calf strain. Shiels has a sore right ankle andwill miss two-three weeks at a minimum. Puopolo must still be in doubt but Guerra is likely. Rioli is the dilemma – has missed 10 weeks and badly lacks match condition – will more likely play in the VFL.
|Rohan Bail||Knee||2-4 weeks|
|Michael Evans||Foot||3 weeks|
|Mark Jamar||Toe||4 weeks|
|Nathan Stark||Ankle||2-3 weeks|
The Doc says: Blease has a sore ankle and may struggle to recover fully this week. McKenzie will face a test as will Grimes but both are slight chances only. Jamar will miss another month of match conditioning but Viney is likely to play in round 16.
|Max Warren||Collarbone||4-6 weeks|
The Doc says: The Roos have the healthiest list in the AFL with Warren (VFL clavicle fracture) the only new concern.
|Travis Boak||Rolled ankle||Available|
|Dom Cassisi||Hamstring||3-4 weeks|
The Doc says: Cassisi has had yet another hammy setback (No.3 this year) and is likely to need rehab for three-four weeks minimum. Ebert is in doubt with a sore adductor from the weekend but Boak and Logan are both likely to recover.
|Ben Darrou||Jaw||3-4 weeks|
|Dylan Grimes||Foot||2-3 weeks|
The Doc says: Vlastuin and Astbury should return and will be training this week – Vlastuin is more likely to play. Maric is only an outside chance this week.
|Jason Blake||Calf||1 week|
|Jackson Ferguson||Knee||6 weeks|
|Sam Gilbert||Knee||4-5 weeks|
|Beau Maister||Hamstring||5-6 weeks|
|Adam Schneider||Hamstring||1 week|
The Doc says: Hayes had limited game time in a half in the VFL on the weekend – he did extra running after the game but may need another low-level hit-out. Roberton has a new lateral ligament sprain and will be slow all week, leaving him in doubt.
|Adam Goodes||Knee||6 weeks|
|Lewis Jetta||Shin||1 week|
|Gary Rohan||Leg||1-2 weeks|
|Rhyce Shaw||Abdomen||1 week|
The Doc says: Goodes did not settle as the Swans hoped and developed signs of a loose tissue fragment in his knee. Arthroscopic surgery will sort out the injury but recovery may take five-six weeks. Morton had a tight quad in the warm-up and was a late withdrawal – he's still at risk this week. Mumford is a good chance to play after missing four weeks with a depressed zygoma fracture surgery. Shaw has been a challenge – has not played since round two but is due back any week now and will be well down on match fitness.
|Brant Colledge||Hamstring||3 weeks|
|Shannon Hurn||Ankle||8-9 weeks|
|Adam Selwood||Back||1 week|
|Scott Selwood||Thumb||5-6 weeks|
|Luke Shuey||Hamstring||1-2 weeks|
|Sharrod Wellingham||Ankle||2 weeks|
The Doc says: Shuey and Adam Selwood still need more time in rehab. The Eagles are not likely to regain any players this weekend.
|Matthew Boyd||Fractured cheekbone||4 weeks|
|Josh Prudden||Ankle||1 week|
|Easton Wood||Hamstring||2 weeks|
The Doc says: Boyd has a depressed zygoma (cheekbone) after a 'friendly-fire' collision – the Dogs hope he will be back in three to four weeks. Goodes and Stevens are likely to return.
