GREATER Western Sydney midfielder Adam Treloar believes the Coleman Medal will become a team target in the final round of the season if Jeremy Cameron is still in contention.
Despite playing in a side that has tallied just one win in 2013, Cameron has continued his meteoric rise and booted 58 goals from 18 matches.
The 20-year-old entered round 21 ranked third on the League's goalkicking table, trailing only West Coast's Josh Kennedy (60 goals) and Hawthorn ace Jarryd Roughead (59).
In recent seasons, coaches have rendered the traditional goal-glut full-forward an endangered species and the race to the Coleman has become more of an awkward amble.
The feats of Cameron and the fact he and the Giants are both in their second season, has changed things with many AFL fans becoming Cameron fans.
Even Richmond's two-time Coleman Medal winner Jack Riewoldt admitted this week he hoped Cameron claims the prize.
"He's probably my favourite player," Riewoldt said.
Treloar wanted the Giants to adopt a new set of team rules in round 23 - do everything they can to help Cameron snaffle the medal.
"I just hope in the last round he only needs five or six goals to win it," Treloar said.
"Every time I get the ball I'm going to be looking to give it to him, so he can kick whatever he needs.
"He's in the Coleman Medal race, and it's about the little goals we can strive for.
"I think a lot of the midfielders will be looking for him, so he can kick a bag and hopefully win the Coleman."
Treloar and Cameron were among a handful of players that were the first signed by GWS, in 2010.
Even Treloar has been surprised by the leaps and bounds Cameron has taken in the three years they've been teammates.
"It's phenomenal for him to be in the Coleman Medal race," he said.
"I remember my last TAC Cup season in 2010, one game we (Dandenong) played against Jeremy Cameron's North Ballarat Rebels.
"He was a raw talent then, but you thought 'this guy could be a freak'.
"I always believed he was going to be a freak, but I didn't think he was going to be this good this early."
The Giants face the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday night.
