MELBOURNE prodigy Jesse Hogan has escaped serious damage after hyper-extending his knee playing for Casey in the VFL on Saturday.

The exciting key forward prospect, who is not eligible to play senior football for the Demons until next season after being taken as a 17-year-old in last year's mini-draft, had a scan on Saturday afternoon.

It showed some bone bruising, but importantly, no structural damage.

The club is hopeful Hogan will be fit to take part in Casey's finals campaign.

Before Saturday's game, Hogan sat third on the VFL's 2013 goalkicking list with 39 goals.

The key forward will not officially come onto Melbourne's list until next season, but his outstanding form for Casey has helped buoy Demons fans that better times are not too far away after years of struggle.
