HAWTHORN has hired retired defender Brent Guerra as a development coach.

The two-time premiership player called time on his 14-year, 255-game career after this year's Grand Final.

He will return to Waverley in November on a part-time basis.

The 31-year-old is the second retired Hawk to find work as a development coach since the end of the season, after ruckman Max Bailey was hired by Richmond.

Guerra has completed a level two coaching course, and has spent time working with TAC Cup club the Oakleigh Chargers in recent years.

Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson said Guerra had already shown talent as a teacher of younger players, and would make a good addition to the club's coaching staff.

"His AFL experience and knowledge of the modern game will be invaluable to the younger players under his tutelage," Clarkson said in a statement.
