HIGHLY rated Collingwood recruit Matt Sharenberg says he is unsure when he'll start full training as he recovers from stress reactions in his feet.

The injury came to light on the eve of last year's NAB AFL Draft but the Magpies took Scharenberg with their first pick, No. 6 overall, fully aware they would have to ease him into his first AFL pre-season.

"I've been on a modified program, just doing rehab mainly and trying to get the feet right," Scharenberg told AFL.com.au.

"It's still been pretty solid and lots of hard work, but it's been good.

"(My feet) are getting better. We're taking it one day at a time and each week at a time.

"There's no point really trying to look into the future. I've just got to do what's in my control and go from there."

Nonetheless, Scharenberg is confident he can recover in time to give himself a chance to make an impact in his debut season.

The 18-year-old says he has settled into life at Collingwood and can feel a growing excitement around the club as the 2014 season draws closer.

"It was pretty daunting the first few weeks, but it's all part of the experience and I've definitely enjoyed every minute of it so far and am very excited to keep moving forward," Scharenberg said.

"All of the senior players have been really good. They seem like a pretty tight-knit group and I'm just very grateful to be part of it."
