VICTORIA'S Minister for Youth Affairs, Ryan Smith, has joined AFL Media general manager Peter Campbell to announce the next round of draftees for the AFL's journalism internship.

The AFL Youth Central Rookie Reporter Program will see two young people work with senior AFL reporters and editors to cover various aspects of the game for the AFL website, AFL App and AFL Record.

Mr Smith said the AFL Youth Central Rookie Reporter Program builds on the success of last year's program by giving more young Victorians an incredible opportunity to work at one of Australia’s busiest digital media outlets.

"I am pleased to announce the two successful applicants for 2014 are Susan Giese, 23, from Werribee and Giulio Di Giorgio, 22, from Pascoe Vale," he said.

"As budding reporters, the successful applicants will learn first-hand about how a major digital media operates, plus write news pieces for the AFL website, the AFL Record and club websites.

"The interns will form invaluable contacts in the AFL industry, mixing with players and coaches. They will also tap into the knowledge and practical skills of many of the most experienced journalists and editors around.

"This program is part of the Victorian Coalition Government's commitment to bringing together government and business to work in partnership with young people so they may provide them real hands-on experience in the workforce."

Mr Campbell commended the Victorian Government on its initiative for young people.

"The AFL Youth Central Rookie Reporter Program has already uncovered some terrific talent and we are looking forward to having Susan and Giulio join us to share our passion for AFL," he said.

"Two of the 2013 Youth Central Rookie Reporter interns made such an impressive contribution last year that we have offered them work as part-time employees for AFL Media this season.

"The AFL is proud to work in partnership with the Victorian Government to provide career development opportunities for young people and to again deliver this program in the 2014 AFL Premiership Season."
