PORT Adelaide has upgraded rookie ruckman Brent Renouf to its senior list, allowing it to take two ruckmen into its season opener against Carlton on Sunday night.

Renouf replaces the injured Jarrad Redden (knee), who had been placed on the club's long-term injury list.

Renouf, a 2008 premiership player with Hawthorn, struggled to hit his peak in 2013 following knee surgery and was subsequently delisted before being re-drafted as a rookie.

Power football manager Peter Rohde said Renouf was a chance to face the Blues.

"Obviously having Reddo out with a long-term injury meant we always had the option to upgrade a rookie, and Brent was the player we suspected would get the nod," Rohde said.

"Brent has had a few of his own fitness issues, but as we didn't need to upgrade him for him to play during the NAB Challenge, we were able to monitor how he went in pre-season games.

"Now we're able to consider him for selection."
