GOLD Coast teenager Jack Martin will be sidelined for an extended period of time after scans on Monday revealed considerable damage to his left AC joint.

General manager of football operations Marcus Ashcroft said scans confirmed serious damage to the left shoulder.

"Unfortunately the scans have shown that Jack has extensive damage to his left shoulder. Jack and the club's medical team will meet with specialists in the coming days to determine the appropriate course of action," Ashcroft said.

"The nature of the injury means Jack will be sidelined for an extended period of time."

Martin, 19, said it was a disappointing way to start his AFL career.

"It was a such a big build-up and it was great that the boys got the win, but individually, I will probably remember it for all the wrong reasons," Martin said.

"I’m now just looking forward to starting my rehabilitation and giving myself every chance of playing some football later in the season."
