TALENTED Gold Coast youngster Jack Martin will have surgery on his injured AC joint on Tuesday, although there is no set timeframe on his return.

Martin hurt his shoulder in the club's round one win over Richmond, lasting just 10 minutes in his highly-anticipated debut.

After Martin met with shoulder specialists, the club's medical staff decided surgery was the appropriate path to take.

"Jack's in a pretty good space, he and the club were pleased with the report he received from the specialist," Gold Coast football manager Marcus Ashcroft said in a statement.

"During the consultation it was determined that surgery was the best way to treat the injury."

Ashcroft said Martin's return was still unknown.

"Following Jack's surgery he will continue extensive rehabilitation. As he progresses we will be in a better position to establish when he will be available to return."
