DAYLE Garlett could make the shock move to play country football in WA.
Dandaragan Football Club, located 170km north of Perth, has submitted a transfer request for Garlett with the West Australian Football Commission.
Garlett would reportedly still need a clearance from WAFL club Swan Districts, which re-listed the 20-year-old after he quit Hawthorn last Monday, before he lined-up for the country club.
Swan Districts released a statement last Friday, which said the troubled ex-Hawk was not part of their 2014 plans.
It was expected Garlett would seek a transfer to another WAFL club, with the Perth Demons expressing their interest.
But it now seems the talented left-footer could make his return to football in the Central Midlands Coastal Football League for Dandaragan, whose season starts on Anzac Day.
Garlett is listed as a pending transfer on the league's website.
Dandaragan reportedly approached Garlett through his cousin, Shannon Stack, who plays at the club.
Dandaragan coach Mat Helms told The West Australian the club hoped to reignite Garlett's stalled career.
"We wanted to put the option on the table that if he wanted to come back out to the country and just start enjoying his footy and feel there was no pressure on him to perform at that higher level that we'd be more than happy to have him on board," Helms said.
"I've been speaking to him and he's just keen to come out for a run, clear his head and start enjoying his footy again and play with his cousin.
"We appreciate the calibre of a player like him on board.
"My target for him is to come back, start enjoying his footy and then obviously I want to see him go back through the WAFL.
"Hopefully we can light his spark again and get him back on that journey that he should be chasing again after having a year off."
Garlett's manager told Perth radio station 6PR on Monday night that he was not aware of the player making any deals with a club.
