ADELAIDE
Scott Thompson will be monitored this week but is expected to recover from a corked thigh suffered against the Sydney Swans, as is Mitch Grigg (adductor) and Sam Kerridge (eye). The Crows are in desperate need of Tom Lynch (shoulder) and Andy Otten (knee) but the pair is still at least a week away from a return. Brilliant SANFL form from Brodie Martin (26 possessions, 10 marks, one goal) could beenough to see him elevated to the senior side to take on St Kilda on Sunday, while SANFL teammate Cam Ellis-Yolmen was also one of the club's best with 28 touches, eight clearances and a goal. - Harry Thring

BRISBANE LIONS
Coach Justin Leppitsch will be forced to make at least two changes for Saturday's match against Port Adelaide, with Daniel Rich (season-ending ACL) and Daniel Merrett (suspended) to be missing in action. Leppitsch has shown a liking for blooding new faces so expect West Australian Nick Robertson to make his debut, while Ryan Harwood seems a logical place to come into the backline to join the three talls of Justin Clarke, Jordan Lisle and Joel Patfull. Draftee Darcy Gardiner could also come into contention to replace Merrett, with the tall defender having played a couple of solid matches in the reserves. Former Magpie Jackson Paine kicked five goals in the NEAFL at the weekend and is under strong consideration.  - Michael Whiting

CARLTON
Heads are set to roll after last week’s embarrassing display against Essendon. Inside midfielder Patrick Cripps, the Blues’ No. 1 pick in last year’s NAB AFL Draft, starred in the VFL, collecting 34 disposals (17 contested), eight inside 50s and six clearances, and is a good chance to make his AFL debut on Saturday. Former Lion Sam Docherty, returning from a knee injury, and key forward Levi Casboult were also prominent for the Northern Blues and would be in contention for promotion. Veteran rookie Heath Scotland also performed well in the VFL. - Howard Kotton

COLLINGWOOD
The Magpies will need to dust themselves off quickly, with a significant clash to come on Friday night against Richmond. There are plenty of sore Magpies after the club's 11-point loss to Geelong, with Sam Dwyer (knee) and Nick Maxwell (ankle) heading the list. Dwyer will miss one week, Maxwell faces a fitness test, as could Dayne Beams (ankle). Dwyer's absence brings Ben Kennedy and Josh Thomas into the selection frame. Kennedy (28 touches) and Thomas (23) were among the VFL side's best players which took on the AIS-AFL Academy in an exhibition match at the MCG last Friday night. Rookie Kyle Martin (30 disposals) continues to push his case, as does former Sydney Swan Tony Armstrong (30). - Ben Guthrie

ESSENDON
After the big win over Carlton, expect the Bombers to make minimal changes for the trip west to meet Fremantle. Paddy Ryder (ankle) is likely to return to take on Aaron Sandilands on Sunday afternoon, while Leroy Jetta, who was best for Essendon's VFL team last weekend, is in the frame for a recall if the Dons opt for more run. Zach Merrett, who was dropped for the Blues clash, is another chance to return, especially if the Bombers decide to rest veteran forward Paul Chapman, who is battling a sore ankle, or Kyle Hardingham's quad injury doesn't come up. Tom Bellchambers (ankle) is expected to resume through the VFL this week, with an eye on Anzac Day for a return to the senior team.  Defender Tayte Pears will come into consideration if Dustin Fletcher doesn't recover from general soreness. - Gary Walsh

FREMANTLE
The Dockers face an enormous test this week as far as their depth is concerned. Zac Dawson returns from suspension but Nat Fyfe will miss another week. With Michael Barlow still a month away, the Dockers may suffer further key losses. Chris Mayne and Michael Walters are in doubt with significant ankle issues. Garrick Ibbotson will likely miss games with a dislocated shoulder. Clancee Pearce had 39 touches in the WAFL and will almost certainly come in. Colin Sylvia had 23 disposals and kicked two goals for Peel Thunder. Josh Simpson had 23 touches including 10 inside 50s. Anthony Morabito would be a huge gamble but he has been moving well in the WAFL. Zac Clarke is making a strong case for a recall. He had 15 touches, 38 hit outs, and kicked a goal. - Alex Malcolm

GEELONG
The Cats are unlikely to regain star defender Corey Enright (ankle) for Saturday night's big clash with West Coast at Simonds Stadium, but they will have the option of bringing back Taylor Hunt, who has served his suspension. Key forward Josh Walker put his hand up for a recall by kicking four goals in a best on ground performance against Bendigo Gold in the VFL on Friday night. Draftee Jake Kolodjashnij was also among Geelong's best players in that game. Small forward Lincoln McCarthy is another player pushing for selection. He was a late omission from the Cats' AFL side that beat Collingwood on Saturday after falling victim to the dreaded "team balance". - Adam McNicol

GOLD COAST
The Suns paid a price for last weekend's big win over the Lions with small forward Brandon Matera suspended and in-form fullback Steven May fighting a charge. This may give the chance for Karmichael Hunt to return to the line-up after two strong games in the reserves. Playing predominantly forward, Hunt had 19 disposals, six clearances and a goal in a team soundly beaten by the Lions reserves last weekend. If May fails to beat his rough conduct charge, Timmy Sumner is a chance to regain inclusion, with Rory Thompson returning to his preferred backline post to cover for May, and Sumner filling in up forward. Charlie Dixon is racing the clock with a groin injury. - Michael Whiting

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY
Things are starting to click along nicely for the Giants, with the seniors winning their second game in three attempts this year and the reserves knocking off the Sydney Swans. Kristian Jaksch, Tim Golds, Mark Whiley and Liam Sumner, who have all tasted senior football prior to this year, stood out for the seconds and are doing their best to knock down coach Leon Cameron's door. No.1 draft pick Tom Boyd also took a strong mark and kicked truly from 50m late in the fourth quarter to help seal the eight-point victory as he moves closer to his AFL debut. It will be hard for Cameron to make too many changes this week, however, to his winning team. Lachie Whitfield (foot) is one who will come back in if he can prove his fitness.  - James Dampney

HAWTHORN
The Hawks have a number of senior players either knocking on the door for selection or edging closer to full fitness. Captain Luke Hodge will be the headline inclusion to take on Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium. Hodge (groin) wanted to play in last week's 58-point demolition of Fremantle, but coach Alastair Clarkson erred on the side of caution. Ben McEvoy (calf) was a late withdrawal last Friday night and it's wait-and-see whether the ruckman flies north to face the Suns. Norm Smith medallist Brian Lake's three-game suspension from the Grand Final has finally ended, but he is battling a calf issue and won't be rushed. When Lake returns it will be through the VFL for Box Hill, where best on ground Ben Stratton (hamstring/calf), Brad Sewell (hamstring) and Ryan Schoenmakers (ACL) impressed in their comebacks from injury last Saturday. Stratton is the most likely of the trio to push for an immediate AFL recall. Derick Wanganeen, Luke Lowden and Mitch Hallahan also stood out in the win over Werribee, but forcing their way into the unbeaten Hawthorn side will be tough. - Travis King

MELBOURNE
Chris Dawes could go straight into the senior team on Sunday against Carlton, as he appears ready to play after missing the start of the season with calf problems. With Melbourne bereft of tall targets, it might have to roll the dice and play him immediately but it would be a huge risk given his recent battles with soft tissue injuries. Colin Garland is also in contention to return from an ankle injury that required an operation. Despite a lack of match practice, his experience would be invaluable. Neville Jetta played well for Casey Scorpions but the rookie is not eligible to play senior football without being elevated to the senior list, which Melbourne won't do this week. Jack Trengove enjoyed a run-around at VFL level and that freshen up might continue for another week while Jordie McKenzie looks ready to take a senior spot. Mitch Clisby played well in the backline and will challenge for the small defending role while Mark Jamar got through the game but remains a couple of weeks away. Sam Blease is on the edge of selection and kicked the winning goal for Casey against Essendon on Sunday at Windy Hill. - Peter Ryan

NORTH MELBOURNE
North is confident vice-captain Jack Ziebell (shoulder) will be fit to resume against the Sydney Swans this Sunday, but will have to replace utility Jamie Macmillan (fractured fibula). The Roos could look to veteran defenders Michael Firrito and Scott McMahon, after the duo impressed for Werribee against Box Hill last Saturday. Liam Anthony is also likely to be considered. The prolific midfielder did not play last weekend given North Ballarat's bye, but was an emergency for the Roos against Port Adelaide. North is unlikely to make many other changes given its impressive win over Port. - Nick Bowen

PORT ADELAIDE
The club is hopeful key duo Jay Schulz (foot) and Chad Wingard (ankle) will both recover in time for Saturday's game against the Brisbane Lions, but there's no such hope for Angus Monfries who will miss a number of weeks with a torn hamstring. Versatile forward Paul Stewart (17 disposals, one goal in SANFL) looms a logical replacement for Monfries, although skipper Travis Boak talked up Aaron Young (28 possessions, 13 clearances) as another worthy addition. Although available after recovering from a shoulder injury, midfielder Andrew Moore will likely play some SANFL football before returning to the AFL. - Harry Thring

RICHMOND
Vice-captain Brett Deledio will face a fitness test on his injured ankle, with the Tigers desperate to regain him for Friday night's clash against Collingwood. Ruckman Shaun Hampson (knee) and small forward Jake King (corked quad) will also need to prove their fitness ahead of the crucial match. Half-back Nick Vlastuin was substituted with concussion against the Western Bulldogs and will have six days to recover. Pushing up from the VFL team, Matt McDonough impressed in a half before heading to Etihad Stadium as the Tigers' emergency last Saturday. He appears first in line after an impressive pre-season with Nathan Foley and draftee Ben Lennon also on standby. - Nathan Schmook

ST KILDA
The Saints have lost Sam Gilbert to a recurrence of his footy injury for at least the next month but are moving closer to regaining Sam Fisher, who is listed as one week away from resuming. Jack Steven and Adam Schneider are both set for fitness tests but are more likely to return through the VFL, with Sandringham to play Box Hill on Sunday. There were some impressive performances in Sandy's win over Frankston on the weekend to give Alan Richardson some food for thought. Jack Billings kicked five goals and Tom Lee three, while Josh Bruce and Tom Simpkin were solid in defence.  - Jennifer Phelan

SYDNEY SWANS
Coach John Longmire has been tinkering with his early-season line-up due to form and fitness issues, but the Swans are starting to have a more settled look following their first victory of the year against Adelaide. Craig Bird (calf) and Sam Reid (Achilles) were two that dropped out due to injury last week, replaced by Lewis Roberts-Thomson and Jeremy Laidler. Bird is likely to return to face North Melbourne, while Reid is currently unable to train and will probably miss the next two weeks. The Swans' forward structure should be boosted in the coming weeks by the return of Kurt Tippett. Back training after a layoff due to knee tendonitis, Tippett's workload will be increased and he is an outside chance of facing Fremantle next week. - James Dampney

WEST COAST
The Eagles have already lost Shannon Hurn for at least a month to a knee injury and now will lose Mark LeCras for four weeks with a fractured arm and Chris Masten will miss two to three weeks with a hamstring strain. Luke Shuey will miss the clash with the Cats due to suspension. The Eagles do have options. Josh Hill will be in the mix to replace LeCras after kicking three goals in the WAFL. Sharrod Wellingham should come straight back in after being a late withdrawal against the Saints due to general soreness. Dom Sheed had another excellent match for East Perth gathering 25 possessions and kicking two goals. Mark Hutchings (21 disposals and a goal) and Sam Butler (32 disposals and a goal) are both ready to go if required. - Alex Malcolm

WESTERN BULLDOGS
He's been on the outer so far in 2014 but Michael Talia looms as the man to fill the void in defence left by a serious shoulder injury to Jordan Roughead. The elevation of Mark Austin off the rookie list could also be a possibility to combat GWS tall timber Jeremy Cameron and Jonathan Patton in Canberra on Saturday. Marcus Bontempelli was the match day emergency against Richmond and the Dogs may see the Giants clash as a perfect opportunity for the 18-year-old to debut against similarly developed opponent. Forwards Ayce Cordy and Tory Dickson could be considered for recalls after kicking five and four goals respectively in the VFL on the weekend - Ryan Davidson
