BRENDON Goddard has suffered a groin injury in the first term of Essendon's blockbuster clash with Fremantle.

The Bombers had already lost personnel pre-game with David Myers unable to take his place in the line-up due to illness, following the withdrawals of Paul Chapman and Dustin Fletcher who did not fly to Perth.

Goddard went back to the rooms after the warm-up with discomfort in his left groin. He returned to the bench for more treatment before entering the fray 10 minutes into the match.

But after appearing restricted in his run throughout the quarter Goddard kicked a ball off his non-preferred left foot and pulled up lame. He made his way to bench and stayed there until quarter-time.

He came on briefly in the second term but was very restricted and was subbed soon after.
