Suspended Hayden Ballantyne 'in the Colin Sylvia basket', says Ross Lyon

Hayden Ballantyne hit the scoreboard against the Swans, but his ill discipline displeased coach Ross Lyon

It's cost Hayden and the team. So he sits in the Colin Sylvia basket
ROSS Lyon has blasted Hayden Ballantyne, saying the Fremantle forward's undisciplined act against the Swans puts him "in the Colin Sylvia basket".

Ballantyne faces a one-match suspension after he was cited by the Match Review Panel for two incidents during the Dockers' loss to the Sydney Swans on Saturday night.

The small forward was charged with striking and kneeing offences against Swans defender Rhyce Shaw. With an early guilty plea, the charges carry 93.75 demerit points each, adding up to a total penalty of a one-week ban and 87.5 carryover points.

Lyon let fly at Ballantyne in an interview with radio station 6PR on Monday night, comparing him to teammate Colin Sylvia, who copped a two-match suspension for rough conduct in the WAFL last week.

"(It's) disappointing, undisciplined," Lyon said.

"It's cost Hayden and the team. So he sits in the Colin Sylvia basket."

Lyon says the club will definitely accept the ban and suggested he may consider making Ballantyne pay extra penance.

"He's let himself down first and the team," Lyon said.

"We'll see what happens after he serves his week and we'll see how we're all going."

While Lyon was clearly frustrated with Ballantyne's ill discipline, the coach says it was not as bad as Josh Simpson missing the team's flight to Sydney last Thursday.

"Josh dropping his bundle and not getting on the plane is disappointing," Lyon said.

"Really, for me, I'd take Hayden every day of the week compared to what Josh dished up at the minute."

Tuesday looms as D-Day for Simpson, with the club set to meet with the troubled youngster to determine his immediate playing future.

"We haven't seen Josh yet," Lyon said.

"Everyone had the day off. We'll gather ourselves tomorrow. We'll come together and make some decisions from there."
