COLLINGWOOD faces a pleasant selection headache this week with Nick Maxwell, Alex Fasolo and Alan Toovey all likely to be fit to take on Adelaide.

The Magpies will return to training on Sunday following their bye this week, with the trio set to prove their fitness before Thursday night's clash with the Crows at Adelaide Oval.

Maxwell (back), Fasolo (toe) and Toovey (hamstring) have been sidelined since the Pies' Anzac Day win over Essendon.

Football manager Rodney Eade said the three players should be available, with others likely to be unlucky to miss out after the Pies have strung together four consecutive wins.

"It's a good problem to have. Possession's nine-tenths of the law, so if you perform well it's difficult to be replaced, albeit the four players who went out last game had been playing well," Eade told AFL.com.au.

"That's a selection dilemma and obviously we'll weigh it up during the week."

Clinton Young will also undergo a test before returning from his corked thigh, while Sam Dwyer is expected to be fit despite a knee issue picked up last week against Carlton.

Ben Sinclair is also a chance to return via the VFL from his hamstring strain.

But important key position player Ben Reid remains a couple of weeks away from playing his first game of the season as he continues to battle the calf tendon injury that has plagued his year.

"It's a very slow process being a calf tendon, so we're just getting that scanned every week," Eade said.

"He's been running so we know there's a tick-off process and he's just plateaued at a couple of stages without going backwards. We've just got to make sure the calf tendon resolves before we can go to the next stage.

"He's been slow but we're quietly confident the next two-to-three weeks he'll be right to play."

The Pies players were given Wednesday to Saturday off as part of their bye, with the club's VFL side also having its bye this weekend.

Eade is confident Collingwood will be able to continue its momentum after its week off.

"I don't think you have to make it too complicated by doing anything too different because you've got a few extra days break," he said.

"Most players and teams are pretty fit at this stage, so it's not a fitness issue. It's more about a bit of recovery, and with a few players coming back from injury it buys them an extra week."
