COLLINGWOOD has locked away talented utility Alex Fasolo, signing him to a two-year contract extension.

The new deal will see him remain at the Magpies until the end of the 2016 season.

"It's really exciting. I love Collingwood and I'm forever grateful for the opportunity they've given to me," Fasolo told Collingwood's TV program The Club.

"There was obviously always that little carrot of going back to Perth, where I'm originally from, but as long as I get to play in front of 70-80,000 every week and I'm really enjoying the friendships I've made in Melbourne, there's no reason to go back there."

Fasolo has played 44 career games since being drafted with pick No. 45 in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft.

This season he has shown an ability to play as an attacking defender, after spending much of his early years as an elusive forward.

He notched a career-high 32 disposals in round five against North Melbourne, before injuring his toe against Essendon the next week.

Fasolo is now back in the selection frame, proving his fitness at training on Wednesday, and has been named as an emergency for Thursday night's clash with Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.
