GEELONG'S Steve Johnson faced the AFL Tribunal after being charged with misconduct for kneeing North Melbourne defender Scott Thompson at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

With an early plea Johnson would have received a one-week ban because of his existing poor record. By appealing, he risked a two-match suspension.

Johnson successfully challenged his misconduct charge and the AFL Tribunal delivered a verdict that will allow him to face Fremantle on Saturday.
