SCANS have revealed no serious damage to Steve Johnson's foot as the Geelong midfielder looks to prove his fitness for Friday night's meeting with Carlton.

Johnson suffered soreness after last weekend's tight win over Fremantle and was seen on crutches on Tuesday morning.

But positive scans means the 31-year-old is still some chance of taking on the Bues.

"They've come up that I don't have any fractures, so it's just about how I manage going forward," Johnson told Fox Sports.

"There's a little bit of pain there, but it hasn't ruled me out for any amount of time at all."

Johnson, who has played 17 games this season, will meet with club doctors before the Blues clash and is hopeful he will be cleared to play.

"I have to go back and consult with the doctors and see how it pulls up over the next few days," he said.

"I certainly haven't been ruled out at all, yet."

Coach Chris Scott, who inked a new contract extension with the club, says the injury is a mystery and they will take a cautious approach with star onballer.

"They still said there's some chance he'll play this week," Scott said.

"But unless he's absolutely right, I wouldn't have thought we'd put him at risk.

"With these sort of things, we always tend to be conservative.

"At this time of year, with a player of Steve's calibre, we're taking that approach.

"The bottom line is we don't really know what it is at the moment."

It has been an eventful week already for Johnson, who on Monday was by the Match Review Panel for a kick to Dockers midfielder Lachie Neale during Saturday night's game.

That came just a week after he had a one-match ban for misconduct overturned at the AFL Tribunal.
