ST KILDA has delisted forward Trent Dennis-Lane and midfielder Sam Dunell as it prepares for what shapes as an active trade and draft period.

Six players have now departed the Saints after the retirements of Lenny Hayes and Beau Maister and the delisting of James Gwilt and Clint Jones.

Terry Milera has also requested a trade to South Australia, potentially taking that number to seven.

Dennis-Lane played 10 games and kicked nine goals for St Kilda after crossing to the club from the Sydney Swans for pick No.46 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft.

Dunell played 12 games for the club after he was recruited as a rookie ahead of the 2012 season, earning elevation to the senior list in 2013.

Coach Alan Richardson paid tribute to the pair.

"Despite limited opportunities in our AFL team, Sam and Trent have both shown significant leadership with Sandringham in the VFL competition, which is a testament to the outstanding character of both players," Richardson said.

"While it is never easy for a player to be told they are leaving a club, the guys were understanding of the club’s decision and we wish them well for their futures."

The Saints hold pick No.1 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft and are expected to be big players in this exchange period as they rebuild under Richardson.

The club has also been pleased with the performances of rookies Eli Templeton, Mav Weller and Cameron Shenton and may need to find room on its senior list to accommodate one or more of them.
