McEvoy did not qualify to play VFL finals with Box Hill but he had been given special permission by AFL Victoria to play and maintain his push for senior selection during the Hawks' week off.
Box Hill's preliminary final opponent, Williamstown, appealed that decision, but their protest was thrown out on Wednesday night after a two-and-a-half hour hearing.
McEvoy has played five VFL games this season, one shy of the six required to automatically qualify to play finals for Box Hill.
Williamstown labelled the decision to let the ruckman play "absolutely outrageous".
The Hawks have three in-form ruckman, with David Hale and Jonathon Ceglar combining well at senior level for the past three weeks.
McEvoy last played at AFL level in round 21, but a quiet performance saw Ceglar take his spot for the last two rounds of the home-and-away season and for the Hawks' qualifying final win over Geelong.
Ryan Schoenmakers will play in the VFL young guns exhibition game prior to Box Hill’s final and could be joined by defender Matt Suckling if he passes a fitness test on his knee.
Suckling and Schoenmakers trained with the Hawks' main group at Waverley on Thursday.
McEvoy was absent from the light skills session, but he is likely to train with Box Hill.
Recuperating forward Cyril Rioli and important defender Josh Gibson were also missing from the main session.
Gibson completed some short running drills before returning indoors, while Rioli's hamstring could be put to the test during the Hawks' closed session on Friday.
