MELBOURNE has narrowed down its list of potential draft selections to four, with Christian Petracca, Angus Brayshaw, Patrick McCartin and Peter Wright all in the mix to wind up at the Demons in November's NAB AFL Draft.
The Demons head to the draft on November 27 in a strong position, holding picks No.2 and No.3 in the first round.
St Kilda is expected to crown Petracca as the No.1 pick, leaving inside midfielder Brayshaw and tall forwards McCartin and Wright as the likely next three picks.
Brayshaw has long been linked to the Demons who are looking to further bolster their midfield heading into 2015.
The on-baller is close friends with coach Paul Roos' son Tyler and was one of Vic Metro's strongest performers in this year's Championships.
"It'll be down to three or four by now," Demons football manager Josh Mahoney told SEN.
"He'd be one of the three or four (Brayshaw).
"In the end, if we get a tall and a midfielder that's a good result. If we get two midfielders or the two talls then it's a good result.
"Either way we're pretty comfortable with it."
Jayden Laverde and Jake Lever are others with claims to feature in the top five picks in this year's draft.
The Demons have already committed to father-son selection Billy Stretch (son of Steven) with pick No.43.
Acquiring McCartin or Wright would add important depth to Melbourne's key position stocks and also provide a perfect foil for Jesse Hogan.
The emerging young forward, who is yet to play an AFL game, is on track to resume pre-season on time having shaken off the effects of a niggling back injury.
"From all reports, he's been training well in the off-season and we're looking forward to him turning up on day one ready to go," Mahoney said.
"He was at the club this morning and he's looking good
"He's been doing all his running and it's looking positive at this stage."
Hogan, 19, re-signed with the Demons, earlier this season, until the end of 2017.
