ADELAIDE'S emerging small forward Charlie Cameron will wear the club's coveted No.23 jumper next year, made famous by Andrew McLeod.

McLeod played 340 games in the guernsey for the Crows, winning two premierships, two Norm Smith Medals and three best and fairest awards along the way.

Cameron will take the jumper from Jared Petrenko who was delisted.

The lightening-fast forward excited fans in seven games this year and eventually plucked up the courage to ask McLeod for permission to wear 'his' number.

"I told Charlie it's not my jumper to give … I'm not the owner of it. I was just its custodian for a while," the ever-humble McLeod told AFC.com.au.
"I'm pleased that Charlie will be wearing the No.23, but I'd be happy with whoever had it. For me, it's just nice that guys want to wear it."

The 20-year-old Queenslander only took up football seriously when his family moved to Western Australia at the end of 2011.

His creativity, vision and tackling tenacity was highly impressive during the 2014 season, earning him a permanent spot on the Crows' senior list and a new two-year deal.

"Everyone knows how special this number is. I'm really excited to wear it because Andrew McLeod is one of the greatest players ever," Cameron said.
"Andrew is really good to me and has helped me out a lot since I got here.

"I look up to him and what he has achieved on and off the field."

Left-footed midfielder Mitch Grigg will upgrade his number from No.38 to No.8, while defender Kyle Hartigan has moved from No.41 to No.15.

Grigg wore No.8 throughout his junior football and Hartigan's father wore No. 15.

"Hopefully, he gets a bit of a kick out of that," Hartigan said.
