The Mission of AFL Cape York House is to enhance the lifestyle skills of Indigenous Australians and increase participation in sport through the AFL game.

 

The AFL Cape York House Careers & Transition Manager will oversee careers component and health and wellbeing development of AFLCY House students attending partner schools in Cairns and to work closely with relevant staff, stakeholders and students to ensure the best possible outcomes are achieved for each student living at AFLCY House.

 

AFL Cape York House Careers Program

  • Case manage students school to work pathway
  • Coordinate school and work place visits
  • Ensure transport for students to and from work placement
  • Work with students to step out Ed Queensland, Set Plans and monitor
  • Supporting students to engage in part time work, years 10-11-12
  • Maintain individual profiles/data base of all students, achievements/failures, pathways, wellbeing.
  • Attend regular AFLCY House leadership meetings as required

Assist in the management and coordination of AFL Cape York programs including talent, regional and state events, Chris Johnson/Angie Nadredre Cups, Crusader participation events and education and training.

 

Mandatory Key Selection Criteria

  • Positive Working with Children Blue Card
  • Level 1 AFL Coaching Certificate
  • To demonstrate to Core Values of the AFL, accountable, progressive, respectful
  • Experience working with Indigenous youth

Desirable

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate young people
  • Understanding of Education and Training pathways and services
  • High Standard of communication skills, verbal and written
  • General understanding of AFL programs and structure
  • Experience in coaching youth age participants
  • Ability to work at a team level
  • Demonstrated experience in organizing training program for young people
  • Experience in working with Indigenous communities
  • Ability to engage with outside service providers including employers
  • Understanding of local industries and work opportunities for youth
