ADELAIDE'S Patrick Dangerfield is likely to kick off his 2015 season under lights against Geelong at Simonds Stadium after being named in the Crows squad for Thursday night's NAB Challenge game.

If he plays, the 24-year-old free agent, who has been linked all pre-season as a possible Cats recruit in 2015, will go head to head with Geelong skipper Joel Selwood, who is also playing his first game for the season.

Both clubs named strong squads for the game, however Cats' star Steve Johnson remains on the sidelines, with Geelong hopeful he will play the final NAB Challenge game ahead of round one.

The Crows named ruckman Sam Jacobs and midfielder David Mackay for their first games for the season, while the Cats included veteran Jared Rivers.

Rivers didn't play in the season opener against Gold Coast in Townsville after a slightly delayed start to pre-season due to a troublesome knee.

Former Melbourne speedster Sam Blease will also make his first appearance for the Cats. Blease joined the club as a delisted free agent at the end of last season.

Ex-Hawthorn and Melbourne defender Kyle Cheney will play for the Crows for the first time having joined the club via a trade in October.
