FORMER West Coast captain Ben Cousins has been arrested after an alleged police pursuit in Perth.

A 36-year-old man, believed to be Cousins, has been charged with reckless driving, failing to stop and failing to comply with a breath analysis request.

WA police attempted to pull over an erratic driver on Preston Point Road in the Perth suburb of Bicton around 10.30pm on Wednesday night.

After failing to stop, the driver was arrested on the corner of Gill and Solomon Streets in Mosman Park.

WA police confirmed the driver would appear in Fremantle Magistrates Court on April 8.

The 2005 Brownlow medallist and Eagles' premiership player has had several previous brushes with the law.

His well-publicised drug addiction ended his career at the Eagles in 2007 shortly before he was suspended by the AFL for 12 months for bringing the game into disrepute.

He made a comeback with Richmond in 2009 where he played 32 games, but since retirement has been charged with drug possession. Charges laid against him in 2014 were dropped.
