The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed the matches played in week three of the NAB Challenge. The following charges were laid:

Charges Laid:

Joe Daniher, Essendon, has been charged with striking Phil Davis, GWS Giants, during the fourth quarter of the NAB Challenge match between Essendon and the GWS Giants, played at Spotless Stadium on Friday March 13, 2015.

In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the GWS Giants Football Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as careless conduct with low impact to the head. The offence was classified as a $1500 sanction under the table of penalties. The player has no applicable bad record. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a $1000 sanction.

Other Incidents Assessed:

The match day report against Fremantle’s Michael Walters for engaging in rough conduct against the Sydney Swans’ Craig Bird was assessed. Based on a medical report from the Sydney Swans’ Football Club, speaking to the umpire who laid the report on the day and the available video evidence, the panel’s view was as follows: The ball was loose near the boundary line with Bird reaching down to collect the ball and Walters coming to the contest from his side. As Bird lowered to collect the ball, he turned towards the oncoming Walters, who was looking at the ball. Walters has his arms out to the side and high contact is made to the Sydney player. It was the view of the panel the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
