7. Patrick Dangerfield
Adelaide
Midfielder
Last year's ranking: 4 (-3)
Official AFL Player Rating: 4
Debut: 2008
Games: 131
NAB AFL Fantasy value: $524,000

They call him the Raging Bull at West Lakes and with good reason. Dangerfield is the most explosive player in the League and possesses a combination of strength and speed that make him unstoppable when he's firing.

Very few can catch the 24-year-old when he's in possession and working at top speed and his equally impressive acceleration enables him to get to contests or the right spot faster than most.

He can make the odd blue when using the ball and cleaner foot skills would make his game close to flawless. Despite occasionally missing a target, Dangerfield can win games off his own boot. When he fires, the Crows usually win.

Last season, Dangerfield kicked 17 goals from 22 games (11 matches as stand-in skipper), finished first for the club for handballs, inside 50s and both hard-ball and loose-ball gets, second for contested marks, third for kicks and fourth for tackles. He was third in the club's best and fairest and led the Crows in Brownlow Medal voting with 21.

But how long will Adelaide be able to rely on the services of the two-time All Australian? Dangerfield's a free agent at the end of the season and his future has been one of key storylines of past months. That will remain the case until he makes his intentions clear.

"We won't comment on the Dangerfield situation, but I can assure our fans that we're doing everything possible to try and get his signature," Adelaide coach Phil Walsh said after the Crows played Geelong in the NAB Challenge last week.

"I've had private conversations with Patrick and they'll stay that. He's contracted to Adelaide and he has to perform at his best like we expect from all of our players.

"That's what I've asked him to do."

Dangerfield has been linked to the Cats, partly because he grew up in Victoria's Great Ocean Road region not far from Geelong. He played junior football for Anglesea and the Geelong Falcons in the TAC Cup competition before joining Adelaide as the 10th pick in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft.
