GREATER Western Sydney has received a major blow ahead of its much-anticipated derby against the Sydney Swans on Saturday, with big man Adam Tomlinson ruled out for 12 weeks with a toe injury.

Tomlinson hurt his toe and was subbed out of the Giants' 45-point win over Melbourne in Canberra on Saturday. The forward was hobbling around in a moon boot after the match.

Scans revealed Tomlinson suffered a toe ligament rupture in the second term – commonly known as 'turf toe' – and he will have surgery on Thursday.

Tomlinson, 21, has been used as a back-up ruckman for star big man Shane Mumford in 2015 and has provided solid assistance, while also playing as a key forward.

Meanwhile, exciting forward Will Hoskin-Elliott is edging closer to a return after he hurt his shoulder in the club’s final NAB Challenge match against the Swans last month.

Hoskin-Elliott will have a fitness test later this week and may be available for selection.
