GREATER Western Sydney defender Tim Mohr has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee for a second time.

The 26-year-old succumbed to the injury while playing for the UWS Giants in the NEAFL on Saturday, just a month after returning from his first season-ending knee injury.

Mohr first tore his left ACL in the round 18 clash against Geelong last July and underwent a traditional knee reconstruction.

Giants football manager Graeme Allan said the club would continue to support Mohr.

"It's an unfortunate injury for Tim who's worked very hard to get himself back to full fitness," Allan told the club's website on Sunday evening.

"Tim is a highly valued member of the Giants and the whole club is behind him as he looks to overcome this setback."

Mohr will meet with a knee specialist next week to determine the best course of action.

The 196cm backman joined the Giants as a matured-age recruit from VFL side Casey Scorpions at the end of 2011.

Mohr has played 43 games for the club since making his debut in round one, 2012.
