SYDNEY SWANS big man Kurt Tippett could make a surprise return from a broken hand against his old club Adelaide at the SCG on Saturday.

Tippett had a plate inserted in his right hand after breaking it against Hawthorn in round 16 and was expected to miss at least a fortnight with the injury, but could be back this week after missing just one game.

The key forward/ruckman had his hand strapped at training on Tuesday, participating in running drills with his teammates, and remained on the track once the rest of the squad had gone inside.

AFL.com.au witnessed Tippett testing himself on the rucking bag, using both his left and right hand to work on his taps with the Swans' medical staff.

His inclusion would be a huge bonus for the Swans, with fellow star forward Lance Franklin (back) also expected to return to the side after missing last week's loss to West Coast in Perth.
