COLLINGWOOD looks set to be without key forward Travis Cloke for the vital clash against Carlton at the MCG on Saturday.

Magpies' football manager Neil Balme said Cloke was recovering well from his calf injury but the club would not rush him back.

"Travis Cloke is going pretty well," Balme said.

"[Cloke's] not completely out of the question for this week, but probably a bit more likely for next week."

After kicking just seven goals the Magpies will be tempted to bring in injury plagued tall Ben Reid for his first senior game of the year after he got through his second successive VFL game on Sunday.

Reid can play at either end of the ground and would be a key inclusion if the Magpies believe he is ready.

Stranded on 99 games, he has not played a senior match since round 21, 2014 and has played just four senior games in two seasons.

However, after six consecutive losses, Collingwood needs a new look.

The club also has the option of recalling key forward Jesse White, who was dropped after a patch of mediocre form.

The Magpies are hopeful Tyson Goldsack will be fit to play after the utility withdrew late from the game against Melbourne. Goldsack experienced tightness in the quad and made the decision to miss.

"[We're] reasonably confident he'll be right for this week but he needs to get through training," Balme said.

The Magpies also indicated that Brent Macaffer might make his long awaited return from a knee reconstruction through the VFL next week.

Macaffer suffered the knee injury in round 22 last season and underwent his second knee reconstruction.

He might be joined by talented youngster Nathan Freeman who has been dogged by hamstring problems since he was the No.10 selection at the 2013 NAB AFL Draft. He is yet to play a senior game for the club.
