THE ESSENDON fan who gambled against Adelaide forward Eddie Betts kicking a goal has paid up – in the form of a charitable donation.

Paul Dunn was sitting in the crowd as Betts lined up for a goal hard against the boundary in the club's massive 112-point win over the Bombers last Saturday at Etihad Stadium.

Dunn called out to Betts, telling him there was a slab of bourbon and Cokes on the line.

The Crows' sharpshooter coolly slotted the major – his 100th for the club – and turned to the Bombers' fan with a smile spread wide across his face.

Dunn managed to get in touch with Betts this week, who suggested he donate to the club's Children's Foundation instead of shouting him a carton.

"Just as Eddie was running in to kick I pretty much said, 'We'll put a slab of (Jim) Beam cans on it'. I thought it might tweak him a little bit, but instead he's kicked a great goal," Dunn said.

"He turned around and celebrated and I gave him a nod to acknowledge the kick.

"Eddie sent me a message [on Tuesday night] and we had a chat over text … I said, 'I'll pay up on the bet. It was your 100th goal and a damn good goal, you deserve it'."

Betts joked that Dunn's experience served as a warning to never write him off.

"Maybe he'll think twice before betting against me next time," he said.

"It's great that Paul is going to pay up and we can do some good with it."
