WESTERN Bulldogs captain Robert Murphy could be in doubt for the club's first final.

Murphy left the training track early on Thursday and coach Luke Beveridge said it wasn't worth risking the skipper against the Brisbane Lions.

"It's the first time all year, really, he has some sort of tendon stuff happening up round the groin," Beveridge said.

"It's just not a good idea to risk him at this time of the year."

Asked if Murphy could be in doubt for the side's first final Beveridge said: "I hope not, but if it persists then he might be. It's new, but we hope he's going to be OK."

Earlier this week, Murphy had indicated he was certain to travel to Queensland.

"No, he didn't tell you a porkie," Beveridge insisted.

The Bulldogs have flown out for Brisbane without veterans Matthew Boyd (general soreness) and Dale Morris (Achilles).

Having avoided using the F-word – finals – all season, Beveridge said he did allow a moment to discuss it after the Bulldogs secured their place in the top eight.

"We did, we took a moment last week and really applauded the players for their efforts and what they've done, with the reminder that we want to create some havoc if we can, " he said.

"It's a great achievement for our club and our players … it's been quite sensational."
