THE SYDNEY Swans' premiership hopes have taken another major blow with key tall Sam Reid injuring his right hamstring early in the first qualifying final at Doman Stadium.

It left the Swans hopelessly undermanned in the key forward department after Lance Franklin was pulled out of the team early in the week with mental health issues.

Key midfielders Kieren Jack (knee), Luke Parker (ankle) and Nick Smith (hamstring) also missed the game through injury.

Fremantle defender Cam Sutcliffe came from the ground during the second term after landing awkwardly on the right shoulder he dislocated in round 22. He came from the ground to receive treatment but returned to the field prior to half-time.

The Dockers suffered a blow pre-game with veteran defender Luke McPharlin withdrawing from the selected side with calf soreness. Key forward Matt Taberner was also left out in the anticipation of wet weather. Tendai Mzungu and Clancee Pearce came into the side, with Pearce starting as the sub.
