GEELONG skipper Joel Selwood will be on light duties until after Christmas after the club revealed he had a foot problem.

Cats football manager Steve Hocking said the problem emerged for the midfield star when he went for a couple of runs while overseas on his break.

He that as soon as the Cats recognised plantar fasciitis was causing the soreness they restricted Selwood to ensure he overcame the problem before getting back into full training.

Hocking told the Geelong Advertiser the interruption wasn't a major concern.

"He had a run on the weekend and he'll continue to build up from here and look to get back into things post-Christmas," Hocking said.

"It's just one of those things, you've just got to wait for it to settle down."

Meanwhile Selwood's brother Scott is recovering well from ankle surgery while midfielder Mitch Duncan, who had an injury interrupted 2015, is also on the improve after minor surgery near the Achilles tendon.
