SWITCHING clubs in the off-season hasn't changed Nathan Freeman's luck, with news that the St Kilda midfielder has injured his troublesome right hamstring again.

Freeman, 20, requested and was granted a trade to the Saints this year after two frustrating seasons at Collingwood, who took the highly-rated youngster with pick No.10 in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft.

Freeman arrived at the Magpies with plenty of expectations but failed to play a senior game under coach Nathan Buckley, thanks to a host of hamstring troubles.

St Kilda general manager of football Jamie Cox told the club's website that Freeman's right hamstring had failed the youngster again, although the injury wasn't severe.

"The strain involves his right hamstring, which he has had some previous trouble with, although it involves a different area of the muscle," Cox said.

"He will need to pull back from training for a while to give it time to recover although we don't see it as a major problem.

"Nathan has been fitting in really well, training strongly and he has completed plenty of conditioning to this point.

"While this is a setback, overall we have been very happy with the health of our playing list for this time of the year."

Possessing pace and endurance, Freeman – who was out of contract when he left the Magpies - was seen as a future star by Collingwood, who were shocked when he walked out of the club.

Freeman said he left the Pies for a fresh start after managing just two games in the NAB Challenge, plus four in the VFL across his two seasons since being drafted.

The onballer tore his right hamstring early in 2014 and had already been placed on a modified pre-season training program by the Saints to manage the issue.
