Shannon Hurn has extended his contract with West Coast

WEST Coast captain Shannon Hurn has signed a one-year contract extension, tying him to the club until the end of the 2018 season.

The new deal keeps Hurn out of future free agency pools and all but ensures the 28-year-old, who was already signed on for next season, will be an Eagle for life.

West Coast also confirmed a new one-year deal for midfielder Matt Priddis on Wednesday after revealed he had re-committed earlier this month.

The Brownlow medallist was due to become a free agent at the end of this season but has signed on until the end of 2017.

The 31-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of his new deal but also appears likely to finish his decorated career with the Eagles, who recruited him as a rookie in 2006.

Entering his second season as captain, Hurn said he was thrilled to sign an extension more than 18 months before his existing deal expired.

"It’s great to have the contract done and dusted early in the year," Hurn said.

"I do like to lock it away sooner rather than later so that it doesn’t become a distraction and I can concentrate completely on the season ahead."

West Coast football manager Craig Vozzo said the new deals for Hurn and Priddis kept two of the club's key leaders in place.

"Shannon, as captain, and Matt as a long-time senior leader offer great guidance to our young squad," he said.

"They also set elite training and preparation standards and we’re thrilled they have each committed once again."
