BRISBANE Lions academy product Liam Dawson has signed a two-year contract beyond this season as the club works to re-sign a number of key players in the coming months.

Dawson, who played 10 games in his debut season last year, was nominated by the Lions as an academy selection in last year's NAB AFL Draft with pick No.44.

The Lions hope the 20-year-old will soon be joined in re-signing by Ryan Lester and Rohan Bewick, while 2014 NAB AFL Rising Star Lewis Taylor is in preliminary talks with the club.

As reported by AFL.com.au, Sam Mayes has put off contract talks as he focuses on making a strong start to the season.

Dawson joins Harris Andrews, Jaden McGrath and Josh Clayton as 2014 draftees to have signed extensions in recent months.

Brisbane Lions CEO Greg Swann said it was a fantastic result to have Dawson recommit to the club.

"Liam is a graduate of our Lions academy and is one of 13 Queenslanders on our list. It's wonderful to see football continue to develop in this state," Swann said.

"We thank Liam's management McDonalds Sports Management who have always been good to deal with and in particular, Liam’s manager Dave Trotter."
