WEST Coast coach Adam Simpson says the Eagles need to be patient with Lewis Jetta as he settles into his new club.

Jetta, 27, has averaged just 12 disposals in his first five games with the Eagles after being traded from the Sydney Swans at the end of last season, where he averaged 18 possessions a game.

There has been external pressure placed on Jetta's performances so far this year, but Simpson says his adjustment will take time.

"We know we need to be patient with 'Jetts'," Simpson said on Wednesday.

"There's been some indifferent form, but we haven't had match committee yet and we haven't had any type of selection conversation. We've only just got through our medical report. We'll see how we go at training tonight and make decisions tomorrow.

"I think we've had some good performances from Lewis this year.

"It's just adapting to a new club, a new system and having a bit of patience is important.

"We got him here for a reason, so we need to keep working with him, just like we did with Jack Redden and Elliot Yeo and Xavier Ellis and all these guys. It takes a bit of time to adapt to a new club, so we've got to have a bit of patience."

The Eagles have some selection headaches heading into Saturday's clash with Geelong at Simonds Stadium.

Yeo looks set to return after missing last week with tonsillitis. Mark Hutchings replaced Yeo last week, and Simpson said Hutchings had locked himself into the side after two excellent performances as the late inclusion this season.

The Eagles still need to get through their main training session on Wednesday night before they travel on Thursday.

Jeremy McGovern won't train on Wednesday after missing Tuesday's light skills session. He tweaked his ankle in Sunday's win over Collingwood, and Simpson said he would need to be managed through a six-day turnaround.

"He probably won't train," Simpson said.

"We'll see how he pulls up. Quite often we have players who don't train off six-day breaks."

Simpson said Jack Darling should be right to train on Wednesday after jarring his back against the Magpies. He did participate in the light skills session on Tuesday.

Ellis is also an outside chance for selection after recovering from an Achilles injury he suffered in round one. Ellis collected 24 disposals in limited minutes for East Perth in the WAFL on Sunday.

"He's definitely in the mix," Simpson said.

"There's no game this week at East Perth. He's available to play on limited minutes. So that's going to be the question we need to answer."

Simpson said the Eagles had not changed their preparations for their interstate trip this week. Much has been made of the Eagles' recent away form, but Simpson said the club's travel routine had nothing to do with their poor performances against Hawthorn and the Sydney Swans.
