HAWTHORN midfielder Brad Hill has been charged with assault following an investigation into an alleged nightclub altercation during the pre-season.

The midfielder, who was charged on Tuesday, notified the Hawks at the time and has not been penalised separately by the club at this stage.

Hill has been summoned to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates Court on Monday, June 27, the day after the Hawks host Gold Coast in Launceston.

The 22-year-old has been charged with one count of unlawful assault.

The alleged incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, January 24.

"Detectives have been told an altercation took place between a man and three other people, about 12.30am at the Lauderdale Road premises," Victoria Police said in a statement.

A 22-year-old woman has also been charged with recklessly causing injury.

"Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives have a charged a man and a woman following an alleged assault at a nightclub in Narre Warren on 24 January," Victoria Police confirmed.

"Bradley has kept the club informed throughout this entire process," Hawthorn football manager Chris Fagan said in a statement.

"The leadership group has already met on this matter and has decided that no sanction will be applied at this stage.

"The matter is now before the court and any sanction is in the hands of the judicial system."

The Hawks, who would not comment further on the matter, said Hill had cooperated fully with police.

The alleged incident reportedly occurred between a man and three other people at Narre Warren, a suburb in Melbourne's outer south-east.

Victoria Police confirmed last month that a 21-year-old man was treated for minor facial injuries as a result of the alleged incident.
