WEST Coast coach Adam Simpson has given a strong indication that Sunday's clash against the Bulldogs will be a physical encounter.

Simpson's team demolished an undermanned Gold Coast at Domain Stadium and showed glimpses of the run-and-stun form that took the team to last year's Grand Final.

But Simpson said he was more excited by "dirty" goals that came from a tough contest.

"The clean footy and the stuff that looks really good, that's great, don't get me wrong. I like that and I'm sure our supporters do, but they're hard to do all the time," he said.

"… I think (you've) got to win ugly and when it gets closer and closer towards finals type of football, there's not much pure football that you see.

"In transition, there's always a contest you've got to win before you score or before you prevent a score. And that's what makes the Bulldogs so strong.

"The contested ball and what they're doing at the moment is second to none."

Five talking points: West Coast v Gold Coast

But Simpson warned that a win against the Bulldogs had to come from a complete performance, rather than just strength around the stoppages.

"They're a sexy side, too," he said. "They can do both. We'll have to start preparing tomorrow. I understand they had a good win today, so, we're playing them on their home deck. It's going to be a really, really big challenge for us, but I think our boys are ready."

Simpson said his team had not suffered any serious injuries during the game against Gold Coast and he had also been able to give game time to debutant Tom Cole, who finished with 14 possessions.

Andrew Gaff would be available for the game against the Bulldogs, while Elliot Yeo was "touch and go", he said.

Simpson was also pleased with the efforts of Lewis Jetta, who had 17 possessions after spending a week with East Perth in the WAFL. Jetta was recalled to the Eagles' side after Gaff was ruled out with concussion.

"He (Jetta) is still learning to play our way, which is a little bit different than previous club and some of the running patterns and the things he does off the ball, we were really pleased with today," he said.

"But there is still some work to do."
